Core Mechanical Design
Overview
Core Systems' engineering team is proficient in both 2D vector based drafting systems (AutoCAD) and 3D solid and surface modeling systems (SolidWorks). Core Systems utilizes both 2D and 3D CAD software to define each unique customer requirement from basic conceptual design through prototype phase and ultimate final product production. Core Systems is capable of producing one-off modifications to existing design sets or complete ground up unique industrial designs.
Conceptual Design Phase
Core Systems’ engineering staff will work in lockstep with each customer to acutely define each product requirement from project inception. During initial dialogue, expectations will be set regarding product feasibility, project objectives, design timeframes and fees, and concept approval procedure. Typically, 2D design concepts will be provided to the customer within 3 business days of intial design dialog in order to help define the conceptual design Scope of Work. During the conceptual design phase, several iterations of the design may be needed to clearly define expectations for the prototype product. At this point in the design cycle all relevant customer supplied system components (i.e. custom PCB’s, drives etc.) will be provided to the Core Systems Engineering department.
Prototype Phase
Upon final written approval of the Conceptual Design, Core Systems will move into the Prototype Phase of production. The timeframe allotted for the development of the prototype product will dictate while method of production Core Systems will utilize. Rapid prototype production is available thorough our prototype manufacturing cell which offers a lead-time of a ten (10) business day turnaround time (certain expedite fees will be applied for the expedited turnaround time). A standard prototype turnaround time is anywhere from 4-6 weeks depending on the complexity of the design set. If custom tooling is necessary for the production of the prototype these fees will be quoted during the Conceptual Design Phase. Upon prototype completion, the prototype will be fit tested with all of the relevant customer supplied system components and delivered to the customer for final approval.
Production Phase
In order to enter into the final Production Phase of the project three main requirements must have already been satisfied.
· The customer has approved the conceptual drawing.
· The prototype has been test fitted and approved by the customer.
· The drawing package has been defined and revision controlled.
During the early stages of production, Core Systems will work with the customer to reduce production costs and determine if any modifications to the design are necessary to enhance the overall manufacturability of the product. When higher production runs are observed, the “hard tooling” of the chassis may be necessary in order to lower production costs and maintain production repeatability.
